| Rock Island Roudhouse. Roundhouses were/are large circular or semicircular structures located surrounding or adjacent to locomotive turntables. The roundhouse in a railroad yard is typically located where steam locomotives were maintained and stored. The Rock Island's roundhouse was located on the north side of the warehouse district as shown below, between Geary and Byers. |
